Quick answer

  • Hata is a Malaysian crypto exchange registered with the Securities Commission. You buy and sell crypto in ringgit.
  • Hata is not a bank. There is no PIDM protection, and crypto prices can fall by more than half.
  • Being SC-registered means Hata is legal and supervised. It does not mean you cannot lose money.

Hata in one paragraph

Hata is a crypto exchange run by Company: Hata Digital Sdn Bhd, Bukit Damansara, KLChecked 22 Sep 2026 · Source: Securities Commission ↗. You put in ringgit from your own bank account and buy crypto in MYR. When you want out, you sell back into ringgit and withdraw to your bank. Besides buying and selling, Hata has Auto-Invest (automatic buying on a schedule), SOL staking (locking up SOL to earn rewards), and the option to send or receive crypto from other wallets.

Hata has Coins on Hata Malaysia: 89 coins, all in MYR pairsChecked 22 Sep 2026 · Source: app.hata.io/markets ↗. All of them can be bought with Instant Buy (buying straight at the price Hata quotes), but only some of them have Spot (an order market where you set your own price).

Registered with the SC: what it means

Hata is a Status in Malaysia: Digital Asset Exchange (DAX) registered with the Securities CommissionChecked 22 Sep 2026 · Source: Securities Commission ↗. In Malaysia right now there are Number of SC-registered crypto exchanges: 5 exchangesChecked 22 Sep 2026 · Source: Securities Commission ↗ registered: SC-registered exchanges: Hata, Luno, MX Global, SINEGY DAX, Kinetic DAXChecked 22 Sep 2026 · Source: Securities Commission ↗. Other exchanges that serve Malaysians without SC registration have no protection under Malaysian law.

That is why Daus only uses registered exchanges. When an overseas exchange is shut down or ordered to stop, the people who kept their money there are the ones who suffer. Daus talks about this in the video below.

Hata is not a bank

This is the most important thing to understand before you register:

  • No PIDM. PIDM only protects bank deposits. Crypto is not protected.
  • No fixed returns. Crypto is not a fixed deposit. Its value goes up and down every second.
  • Prices can fall hard. Bitcoin has fallen by half within a few months before, and small coins fall even harder.

The official Hata pages Daus checked do not publish details on cold storage or insurance, so Daus does not want to guess about that. The safest approach is to put in only money you can bear to watch fall by half, and not to keep more on the exchange than you need.

How Hata makes money

Hata charges a fee every time you buy or sell. There are three kinds you will come across:

  • Instant Buy and Instant Sell: Instant Buy / Instant Sell fee: 1% (shown on the quote)Checked 22 Sep 2026 · Source: Hata app (skrin quote Instant Buy dan Instant Sell, 22 Sep 2026). The easiest option, but the most expensive.
  • Spot: maker Spot maker fee: 0%Checked 22 Sep 2026 · Source: hata.io/en/my/fees ↗, taker Spot taker fee (lowest tier): 0.40%Checked 22 Sep 2026 · Source: hata.io/en/my/fees ↗ at the lowest tier. Cheaper, but you need to understand how orders work.
  • SOL staking: Hata takes a share of the rewards as a service fee.

All the fees in one place are in the fees tutorial.

Hata Malaysia and Hata Global

Hata has two platforms. You register on Hata Malaysia, where every pair is in MYR, and as for stablecoins, there are Stablecoins on Hata Malaysia: none (USDT and USDC are only on Hata Global)Checked 22 Sep 2026 · Source: app.hata.io/markets ↗. Hata Global is a separate platform under the Labuan FSA for USD and USDT. Most people do not need Hata Global at all. The full difference is explained in Hata Malaysia vs Hata Global.

What can go wrong

Daus lists them upfront so you are not caught off guard:

  1. Prices fall. This is the biggest risk, and nobody can stop it.
  2. Your own mistakes. Sending crypto on the wrong network, or depositing from someone else’s bank account. All of these are in the 12 most expensive mistakes.
  3. Getting scammed. Someone claiming to be “Hata support” calls or DMs you. Hata has no phone support at all.
  4. Forgetting the code. The affiliate code can only be entered at sign-up or within 30 days after that.

When Hata is not right for you

Honestly, Hata is not for everyone:

  • You need this money within a few months. Crypto is not the place for your emergency fund.
  • You want fixed returns. Go for ASB, a fixed deposit or a savings account instead.
  • You want USDT on a Malaysian platform. Hata Malaysia has no stablecoins.
  • You want leverage or futures. Hata does not have them, and SC-registered exchanges do not offer them anyway.
