5 minutes to fill in · review time is up to Hata Checked 22 Sep 2026

Quick answer

  • Filling in KYC takes about 5 minutes. Use your phone, your original MyKad, and a well-lit spot.
  • Hata may ask for proof of address and proof of source of wealth. Get them ready first.
  • You can try 10 times a day. Hata emails you when you pass.

What you need

  • Your original physical MyKad
  • A phone with a working camera
  • A bright spot, and no glasses for the selfie
  • Proof of address (a utility bill or bank statement) and a payslip or bank statement as proof of wealth

Why Hata needs KYC

KYC (Know Your Customer) is a legal requirement for registered exchanges. Without KYC, you cannot deposit or trade. Hata uses the KYC partner Hata's KYC partner: SumsubChecked 22 Sep 2026 · Source: Hata Help Centre #610331 ↗ to check documents and faces.

Hata also asks some accounts for proof of source of wealth. The reason is that crypto is high risk, and the regulator wants to make sure the people who come in have enough assets to bear that risk.

Photo tips so you are not rejected

Most KYC attempts fail because of the photo, not because of the person. Follow these:

  • Look straight at the camera, and take off your glasses.
  • Make sure your face is clear, not blurry, and the room is bright.
  • Your MyKad should be clean, readable, and not cut off at the edges.
  • Allow camera access if you are using a browser.
  • Do not refresh the browser in the middle of the process.

What each status means

Check your status at Profile → Security → Identity Verification Status:

  • Approved: you passed. You can deposit and trade.
  • Rejected: Hata needs more information. Submit again.
  • Pending: you have not submitted anything yet.
  • Incomplete: you stopped halfway. Continue from where you left off.

How long the review takes

Filling in the form takes Time to complete KYC: about 5 minutesChecked 22 Sep 2026 · Source: Hata Help Centre #609737 ↗. As for the review, Hata only says it is done “within a reasonable time” and does not publish a fixed period. Hata sends you an email when your account is approved. Why KYC gets rejected

The Hata help centre lists five main reasons:

  1. Your location is detected in a country Hata does not serve.
  2. Invalid documents were submitted many times.
  3. The same IC already has another verified Hata account. One person, one account.
  4. You are under 18.
  5. A compliance team decision for other reasons.

If you think there has been a mistake, open a ticket through Contact Support in the app. The full steps are in the stuck account tutorial.

After you pass

An approved account means you can put in ringgit and buy your first crypto. Continue to how to deposit.
